Trollge is a corrupted, creepy form of the trollface internet meme. As of Spring 2021, it is most popular in the form of «Incident» videos, a video meme format on YouTube. On the one hand, they are inspired by, and modelled after trollface rage comics and troll science comics popular around 2021. On the other hand, they take inspiration from internet horror culture (SCPs, creepypastas) and Lovecraftian cosmic horror. This results in a bizarre blend of comedy and horror. The name «Trollge» arose out of convenience, in order to differentiate these dark and surreal «Incident» type comics from their much earlier, innocuous counterparts.

Structure [ ]
The Trollge «Incident» videos and comics always have the following basic structure. They typically present themselves as a tutorial on how to achieve a certain goal (sometimes it is something ‘normal’, but often the goals are already absurd and/or disturbing). They will then tell the viewer step-by-step what to do in order to achieve this goal. Many «Incident» videos start off as seemingly normal in the first few steps, but devolve into gruesome, horrifying, paranormal and/or catastrophic events at the end. More recent «Incident» videos are often creepy and bizarre right from the start. Other properties virtually all of these videos have:
Background and origins [ ]
The original Trollface drawing dates back as far as 2008 and was designed by a college student named Carlos Ramirez. [1] Around 2012, trollface’s popularity as a rage comic character peaked. The trollface character is always depicted as mischievous, scheming, teasing, pranking, «trolling» others.
A particular variety of trollface memes were the troll science comics (popular around 2012). These are rage comics where the trollface explains step by step how to achieve physically and practically impossible (and often absurd) goals. For instance, in one such comic, the trollface records a video of light and plays it on double speed, thereby supposedly creating something faster than the speed of light, which is normally physically impossible. Another classic image shows the trollface moving in a car that is propelled by the power of two magnets perpetually attracting each other by the poles.
Descent Into Darkness [ ]
While the original trollface rage comics and troll science comics were lighthearted, innocuous and playful in nature (as was the original «cover yourself in oil» comic), the versions of trollface that would gain popularity in 2020 and 2021, was certainly not.
The popularity of the «cover yourself in oil» comic was accompanied by disturbing and/or absurd variations, such as a comic where the first three steps are all «cover yourself in oil», followed by an image of a stickman having shot himself. Other varieties simply showed the trollface lighting himself on fire and burning to death. More absurd varieties showed the trollface crushing his genitals with a rock after covering himself with oil, or covering himself in cola and mentos in order to explode.

Trollge Is Coming : Later Incidents [ ]
Almost simultaneously, another disturbing trollface meme variety emerged in 2020. A GIF of a partially obscured trollface going from a blank, neutral expression, to his regular smile, was first posted in July 2020 [4] This creepy edit of the original trollface drawing came to be known as Trollge. The Trollge face (and similar deranged edits of the original Trollface drawing) would later be used in variations of the May 2021 NYC «Heaven Stairway» Incident comic. An early variety was the August 2021 Aurora Woods Incident Comic (shown right). The «Trollge» face, combined with the «cover yourself in oil»-style comics, would later grow into the Trollge «Incident» type comic described at the start of this page.

The Trollge has appeared many fan creations/fan games and works, even starting its own subreddit with 1.8k members and with a now official discord for the subreddit. It was started by u/Unfunnyman_man123 on the subreddit r/196.

Trollge is seen as an extremely thin figure with a head resembling troll face. Every part of him is configurable by Trollge as he can shift into any monstrous being he wants. Sometimes the forms he takes are practical (like when he once turned himself into a giant tree root with a disturbingly disfigured face with several eyes and acidic blood to tear half of the earth out in one reality). Sometimes it’s just to mess around with his victim (referring to the one time he turned himself into a reality warping pickle for the hell of it).

The Trollge was once the Trollface back in 2011, but as he was forgotten, he was filled with vengeance.
The Warnings [ ]
The warnings are a set of 5 recordings from, what we can assume, to be a survivor of the Trollge, who tells the listener how to survive and to hide from the Trollge. The final entry shows what happens to anybody caught. Before the tape’s video cuts out, we see the Trollge walk closer and closer, before loud screaming and fleshy tearing can be heard for a solid minute before the tape cuts out.
The Recordings of the Trollge [ ]
There have been several recordings of the Trollge documented so far. In one of the more important ones, we can see the Trollge breaking into a house where we see Derp, Derpina and Me Gusta. All three look tired and severely injured. As the Trollge speaks something backwards we can hear Me Gusta screaming in the background. The Trollge is then seen murdering Me Gusta violently via breaking his bones.
The Ending [ ]
As we can see the Trollge covered in oil in the forest, an unknown person records it while getting found by the monster. But then the rain comes and the Trollge disappears, presumably flying away. It is unknown if the Trollge is deceased or is still alive.

Trollge has been seen with multiple different abilities and other bits of information that is important to Trollge’s existence, so we’ll talk about them here.
Reality Distortion [ ]
Trollge can warp reality as it is, changing atom arrangements and defying physics and laws of time. Trollge has been seen turning water into blood, changing a banana into a Colt 1851 Navy Revolver with custom cartidges made of human flesh, floating around as a monster in the atmosphere, rearranging human body parts to kill the victim. You get the idea.
Alternate Reality [ ]
Trollge is a major issue to the other multiple universes out there with millions and trillions of him. Our universe is one of the only realities that are absent by Trollge’s rage, as Trollge in this universe wasn’t filled with rage and vengeance when he was forgotten, but rather just sad. All Trollge incidents that have been posted and dated have happened, or will happen in other universes, so we can just say that we’re safe for now.
Body Material [ ]
Trollge’s black and thin body that can be changed and configured however he wants is made of a substance that is a solid, liquid, and gas at the exact same time, making physical attacks useless towards him. Trollge also only shows emotions of insanity, happiness, and disappointment. Trollge has never been seen communicating to someone and not murdering them immediately, as he only feeds on the fear and sheer negative emotions from living beings. He also has an infinite mass, due to his body being indestructible. His head is made of human flesh that he had collected from murdering others, he can too change this head into whatever he wants.

Со временем форс мема стал развиваться. Появилась ютуб-версия предсказания и отдельные варианты копипасты.
Классическая версия истории заключается в том, что в мае 2021 года произошло крушение нефтяного танкера (oil tanker). В результате инцидента нефть (oil в английском языке означает и “масло”, и “нефть”) покрыла людей в Нью-Йорке, и они начали подниматься в небо.
В декабре на разных площадках стали появляться новые версии “инцидентов”. Например, так называемый Aurora Woods Incident, который произойдет в августе 2021 года.
В рунете в январе 2021 года получили распространение сразу два таких мема. Это Black Mesa Incident и “Подольский инцидент”. Последний продолжает традицию абстрактных мемов и крипипаст про Подольск.
“Подольский инцидент” подразумевает историю о том, что 26 мая 2021 года в Подольске произошло загадочное событие, участники которого буквально летали в небе, как и предсказывалось в мемах.
Значение
Мемы про подольский инцидент (и другие вариации) продолжают традицию крипи-мемов, когда масса участников нагнетают атмосферу вокруг выдуманного события. Делается это ради троллинга тех, кто “не в теме” и случайно увидит мем в комментариях.

Trollge refers to a unsmiling Trollface partially obscured with shadow. Circulated since July 2020, Trollge gained its name and popularity from to a series of creepypasta-styled countdown videos that warn the viewer about the upcoming arrival of an entity named «Trollge» and advice to seek shelter. The videos were posted in /r/196 and /r/okbuddyretard subreddits in mid-November 2020 and received further spread online through reposts.
Origin
The meme is based on an older GIF of Trollface going from a neutral expression to smiling. The GIF was created approximately in late 2012 by an unknown author (shown below).
The exact origin of the unsmiling, partially obscured Trollface referred to as «Trollge» is unknown. On July 1st, 2020, iFunny [14] user JolyneC reposted the earliest found video of the face, with the post gaining over 1,700 smiles in seven months (shown below).
In July and August 2020, the video, GIF and image of the face saw moderate circulation on iFunny. For example, on August 6th, 2020, iFunny [15] user poolnoodle posted a still image of the face captioned «something has awoken.» The post received over 2,800 smiles in seven months (shown below).
On November 17th, 2020, Redditor unfunny_man123 started posting countdown videos about the upcoming arrival of an entity named «Trollge.» The videos depict the distorted version of Trollface and contains a message warning the viewer, similar to the original Random Chimp Event posts. The first video in the series (shown below) received over 1,100 upvotes in /r/196 [1] and over 100 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard [2] subreddit in two weeks.
Spread
Between November 17th and 20th, unfunny_man123 posted a total of five videos in which they counted down five days remaining until the arrival of «Trollge.» On November 21st, 2020, unfunny_man123 [3] posted the final video «documenting» the arrival of the entity. The post received over 2,900 upvotes in /r/196 subreddit in ten days (shown below).
In addition to the meme miniseries, on November 26th, unfunny_man123 [4] posted a Cover Yourself in Oil Trollge meme that gained over 120 upvotes in one week.
In late November 2020, the meme series received further spread online through reposts on iFunny and Instagram. For example, a November 26th, 2020, reupload of the final video by Instagram [5] user lemonrepost received over 7,100 views and 1,600 likes in one week. A November 27th repost by iFunny [6] user Sloano gained over 110 smiles in the same period.
Further Use
The unsmiling, partly obscured Trollface introduced in the videos gained further spread online separate from the original videos. On November 18th, 2020, Redditor [7] trollface_gaming posted a video «Le Cops Have Found Me» to /r/trollface subreddit which used the face, gaining over 390 upvotes.
The video was widely circulated online in the following weeks. For example, on November 18th iFunny [8] user Dozet and YouTube [9] user Biden Gaming both reuploaded the video (YouTube reupload shown below). A November 20th, 2020, reupload by Instagram [10] user honeynut.woomy received over 80,000 views and 14,600 likes in two months, while a November 23rd, 2020, repost by Redditor [11] Uchihabreed gained over 12,500 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard in the same period.
Starting in early December 2020, Trollge gained notable popularity in Trollface-related subreddits such as /r/trollface and /r/coveryourselfinoil. On December 16th, 2020, Twitter [12] user @Slictzer posted a meme that used the Trollge as a punchline, gaining over 3,600 retweets and 30,300 likes prior to being removed (shown below, left). The tweet inspired a two-panel format, a derivative Cover Yourself in Oil meme. For example, a on December 17th, 2020, Redditor [13] LeOnYx2017 posted a meme that received over 4,800 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard in one month (shown below, right).
